2026 has proven a landmark year for carbon fiber, marked by unprecedented technological leaps and a reshaping global competitive landscape. China achieved T1200-grade ultra-high-strength carbon fiber at 7.0 GPa with pilot-scale production, becoming the world‘s first nation to mass-produce this grade. Meanwhile, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical successfully industrialized wet-process T1000-grade 12K small-tow fiber, and China National Building Material Group launched three “world‘s largest” production lines in Lianyungang—including a 5,000-ton large-tow line, a 1,000-ton T1100 line on a 4-meter-wide platform, and a 600-ton high-modulus line. Chinese carbon fiber operating capacity reached 171,100 tons, accounting for 52.5% of global total.
